Monica Seles is one of tennis’s best known personalities, having lived her whole adult life in the full glare of the media spotlight. Aside from her tennis exploits, she has appeared on numerous TV shows, participated in high-profile charity work, and been the subject of unwanted front-page headlines. The result of all this publicity is that many people feel they know Monica, and reading this book will enhance that feeling.
Although she has not played top-flight tennis since 2003, it was only as recently as 14 February last year that Monica officially announced her retirement from the sport. To mark the occasion she has produced an updated autobiography, more than a decade after From Fear to Victory told of the upheaval caused by the crazed Gunther Parche’s knife attack on her at the Hamburg Open in 1993.
This new volume tells Monica’s complete life story. Born in the former Yugoslavia in 1973, Monica moved to the US to train under Nick Bollettieri’s tutelage at Bradenton, Florida, and went on to become the youngest ever winner of the singles title at the French Open. The book chronicles the rest of her playing career before concentrating on her personal crusade to lose weight and establish a life after tennis.
There is also a description of Monica’s celebrated appearance on Dancing With The Stars, America’s equivalent of Strictly Come Dancing.
